FAQs
What to expect on your first day of class?
One of the most common questions we get from new students is regarding what to wear for their first day of Jiu-Jitsu. Before you worry about what to wear, you need to make sure that you have prepared physically for your class. Eat a good meal, drink plenty of fluids, and rest well the night before. All of these things will help ensure that your first class will be successful, no matter what you are wearing.
Personal Care
Prior to your first class, you will want to ensure that you are freshly showered, long hair is pulled back, and your fingernails are clean and neatly trimmed. If you have any body piercings, you will want to remove them, and any open wounds should be covered. Remove all jewelry, including rings before your class.
What Not to Wear
While they may be comfortable, baggy cargo shorts are absolutely not allowed in jiu-jitsu classes. The open loose pockets, loops, and baggy fabric are all hazards for your fellow classmates. These features can easily catch and sprain fingers and toes during drills. You will also want to avoid clothing with lots of straps or thin straps for the same reason.
What to Wear
If you decide to continue training, you will need a jiu-jitsu gi. However, for your first few classes we will let you borrow one. You are welcome to attend in a t-shirt, properly fitting athletic shorts, board shorts, athletic pants. Any of these clothing items are welcomed on the mat as you begin to train. In addition, we recommend sandals that are easy to remove.
What to Bring
We recommend you bring a bottle of water, and a small towel, similar to attending a gym.
Do you have a seating area where I can watch the class?
Yes, you have a front-row seat to your child’s or friends Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in fact, we encourage it!
